Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides

I have wanted to see this movie for several weeks, but after over two hours at the cinema I wish I had waited for the DVD release.  I went to the regular version (not 3D) so it is possible that many really cool special effects were missed, but I doubt they were magical enough to pull this movie into the must see category (sorry Disney).

Captain Jack Sparrow (portrayed by Johnny Depp) is always GENIUS and Sparrow remains one of my favorite iconic movie characters. Amazing since I have only really LOVED the first movie in the series (although this installment IS better than installment number two & three).

I would recommend you find another summer blockbuster to pay the big bucks for save this movie for Date-Night-In spend the extra cash on a bottle rum!!

Movie Reivew: Bridesmaids

"Excuse me, can I have a glass of alcohol"? - Jenna

Anyone who has known me more than a minute knows - I hate dislike weddings.  I thought this movie would provide easy material for my beloved sport of bashing the much hyped saccharin filled fairytale Armageddon known as a wedding.
  Wrong again!!

This movie is a REALLY funny caricature of potential wedding woes.  I though it was smart, honest and daring.  So authentic that it gives voice to the silent mantra of Maids of Dis-Honor everywhere:
"Are you F***ING kidding me"?

Megan - the soon to be sister in law (played by Melissa McCarthy- best know as Sookie from the Gilmore Girls) is brilliant.  And I always support the gratuitous inclusion of an Irishman in a movie (Rhodes played by Chris O'Dowd from County Roscommon Ireland).
ALERT : Girls - it's the accent - don't fall for it.

A little sharper editing would have made the movie even better - there were a few unnecessary characters and a food poisoning storyline put in to appease the poor fellas dragged to this chic-flick. The bottom line is: grab some girlfriends and go!!

  Four out of Five Stars!!

Movie Review: Twilight

It was a quiet Sunday, so I grabbed a friend and went to see Twilight. The movie is based on the first book in Stephenie Meyer's vampire series. I read the book a long time ago so the details had faded in my memory. I NEVER like a movie as well as the book, but since the story was not fresh in my mind I was able to enjoy it without being able to pick it apart.

The best part for me was that the movie partially feeds my sick desire for all literary and cinematic love stories to have unhappy endings. It lacked the concrete bad ending I love, but the relationship does contain massive obstacles so there is hope for a horrible demise in the future. I give the movie 4 out of 5 stars. So grab a friend and go to the movies!! As for me, I am off to read the next installment.

Movie Review: Quantum of Solace

Off to the first matinée yesterday of the new James Bond Movie "Quantum of Solace". Yep it's true - I am a Bond fan!! I enjoy watching his unapologetically womanizing, alpha male, martini drinking, tux wearing self. I believe the fact that a character can be portrayed by interchangeable actors is cinematic genius.

I left the theater mulling over the following regarding this installment of 007:
The movie lacked plot, had pointless characters, endured a boring obligatory love scene, replayed predictable chase scenes, had a tired story line and left a few unanswered questions.

Now don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the movie!! Judi Dench rocks as "M" and watching Daniel Craig on the big screen is well worth the price of a movie ticket anyday. I give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars. Go to the movies, don't expect much and enjoy the ride. Oh yeah - did I mention Daniel Craig is YUMMY?!!!!
